Ken was loved and adored by so many. He helped countless people from working on their cars, rescuing them from the side of the road, to helping with household things. He was never able to say no to someone who needed him.
A devoted husband, he strived to always keep me happy. He succeeded absolutely for 20 years. He will be missed every minute of every day. He was a great father who tried to teach the kids right from wrong and how to be men, and a young lady.
Ken always showed his sense of humor, which was endless. You could always count on him to make you smile. Our family thrives on witty snippets and TV/movie quotes and he never failed to have us rolling quite often; he brightened our lives.
The man loved anything with a motor that he could make have a bigger motor. Many nicknamed him MacGyver for his ability to fix things and turn them into scarier versions. He spent many hours building things with the kids and had the most amazing mind.
Animals, man, did he love animals. We rescued so many together. He wanted to become a rehabilitator for wildlife. As such, we have a zoo here at home and wouldn’t want it any other way.
Ken was born in South Carolina. His early years he moved with the Air Force including Hawaii. When his stepdad came, he was raised in Delaware. He served twenty years in the United States Navy receiving many awards including fourteen Navy Achievement medals. During his time, he saved many young lives from human trafficking while serving on the now decommissioned USS Hawes. The Hawes was his favorite command. He was so proud to have served on that ship, the only US ship ever allowed to fly the Jolly Roger flag. He retired honorably as an EM1 from the military.
Ken resided in Hampton, Virginia. His energy was transformed on August 10, 2017 at age 42.
He is survived by his wife of twenty years, Kimberly Gibson; children, Hunter Crowther, 21, Taylor Gibson, 18, and Dallas Gibson, 15; mother, Jennifer Porecca; father, Ken Gibson; stepdad, Jimmy Porecca; brothers, Brian Gibson and Jason Gibson; sister, Katie Porecca.
