

She was born in Del Rio, Texas and had been a resident of Yorktown for the past 22 years. LaVonne graduated from William and Mary with Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and had received advanced degrees from William and Mary, ODU, and Longwood. She was a long time science and math educator in Hampton City Schools and had taught in York, Gloucester, Essex, Norfolk, and The Governor’s School. She loved teaching and was an enthusiastic and outspoken advocate / mentor for her students.
Her hobbies included crocheting, baking, reading, and shopping. She especially loved her plants.
LaVonne was a devoted and loving wife and mother and will be dearly missed.
LaVonne was preceded in death by her son, Alec Hoffman. She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Eric Hoffman; her children, Adam Hoffman and Alissa Hoffman both of Yorktown; her parents, Marvin and Maureen Burger of Hampton; and her three sisters, Sheryle Burger of Newnan, GA; Yvette (Betsy) Burger of Hampton, and Krystal Coronado (Cayetano) of Hampton.
The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Friday, February 3, 2017 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of LaVonne's life will be held 10:00 am, Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
