Leona P. Scott, age 91, went home to Glory on April 7, 2017. Leona, a native of North Carolina, has lived in Hampton Roads since 1975. As a resident of The Chesapeake Retirement Community she enjoyed a life filled with friends and kindness. Her family is eternally grateful for the care she received there in the twilight years of her life.
Leona is predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph W. Scott and her only daughter, Sherry Green. It brings our family great comfort to know that they are reunited again in love. She is also joined in Heaven by five of her siblings and her mother and father.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Jillian Manning (Matthew), her three great-grandchildren, Jackson, Hunter and Charlotte, who were all certainly the joy of her life. She is also survived by her sister, Millie Everett of Poquoson. Leona and Millie lived many happy years together and their bond will be thoroughly grieved. In addition, Mrs. Scott is survived by two step-sons, Robert Scott (Debra) and Thomas Scott (Cathy) of Hampton and Richmond, respectively. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Barry Green of Richmond.
The family will receive friends at Parklawn Wood Funeral Home in Hampton on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. A memorial service honoring Leona will follow the visitation.
Flowers are welcome, but if you’d like to make a donation in her memory, the family asks that you do so to the Strelitz Diabetes Institute or the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters.
A life well lived is always something to be celebrated. And if you had the pleasure of knowing Leona (or Nana as she is lovingly known to many) you know that there is much to be celebrated. Her life and the example she lived will serve as a guidepost for many in the hard days to come. And until we meet again, her humor and that spark that lived within her will carry us always.
