

Lewis “Lew” Kolar, 95, our beloved Dad and Grandad, entered into eternal peace on Friday, December 9, 2016. He was a resident of Willow Creek in Smithfield, VA. He was born October 10, 1921 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Shippensburg University in Shippensburg, PA. In the early 1950’s, he taught History and English in West Virginia and Florida. He went on to pursue a career in Civil Service at Ft. Eustis, Ft. Monroe and then on to the Pentagon. He was a member of NARFE and Toastmasters in PA. Lew was a faithful member of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church in Oberlin, PA. He was a diehard Washington Redskins fan!! He enjoyed photography and was an avid reader. He had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. He was a kind and gentle soul and his positive attitude was contagious.
Lew is survived by his daughter, Marilyn K. Mattox of Hampton, VA; granddaughter, Gina Livers; great-granddaughter, Hayven Livers of Yorktown, VA; nieces, Betsy Davis, Becky Davis and Peggy Tucker; nephews, Kyle Bowen and Dr. Henry Bowen; and cousin, Carol Pharr.
The family would like to express our deepest heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Willow Creek for the outstanding and wonderful care they provided. A very special thank you goes out to Lisa, Tammy, Roxanne, and Elizabeth. We are forever grateful!!
A Celebration of His Beautiful Life will be held Saturday, December 17, 2016, at 1:00 pm at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home.
