Lucile B. Holden (“Mim”), age 91, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at her home at the Hidenwood in Newport News. She died peacefully, surrounded by her family. She was born June 9, 1927 to Herman and Essie Brown in Pisgah Forest, North Carolina. Lucile married V. Perry Holden in 1954, and they eventually settled in Hampton, Virginia. Perry preceded her in death in 1995 after 41 years of marriage.
Mim was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, neighbor, and friend. She was a dedicated homemaker, known for her culinary, baking, and gardening skills. In addition, she was a gifted seamstress. Lucile was predeceased by her brother Freeman Brown.
She is survived by her son Rick Holden (Janet) of Newport News, VA; daughter Kay Adams (Jim) of Hampton, VA; grandchildren Stacy Londrey (David) of Madison, VA, Sarah Borst (Steven) of Smithfield, VA, Timothy Holden (Emmy) of Newport News, VA, and Matthew Holden (Rose) of Harrisonburg, VA; great grandchildren Rebecca, Hannah, John Londrey, Maggie and Emily Borst; sisters Joyce Poor and Sara Bryson of Pisgah Forest, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Brian McCormick, the staff at the Hidenwood Retirement Community and Personal Touch Hospice for the loving care they have given to their mother.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel.
In tribute to their Mother’s generous spirit, the family requests that memorial donations be made in her honor to the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank, 2401 Aluminum Avenue, Hampton, Virginia 23661.
