

Mario R. Pane, 98, affectionately known as the “Sicilian Charmer” graduated to the next life on Friday, November 1, 2013. He was a resident of Newport News and a native of Palermo, Italy. Before moving to Newport News in August, he was a past resident of Cape Coral, Florida.
Mario was a self-employed interior designer. He was a parishioner of St. Jerome Catholic Church and a former parishioner of St. Andrews, Cape Coral, Florida. He was also a charter member and past exalted ruler of the Elks Club of Cape Coral, Florida. Mario volunteered in the Foster Grandparent program in Lee County Schools, as well as the adult education program where he taught English and Italian.
Mario was preceded in death by his first wife, Etta Pane; his second wife Millie Pane; and two brothers. He is survived by his daughters, Angela Stroup and husband, Thomas; Kathleen Cassara and husband, Ben; son, Charles Pane, and wife Pam; six grandchildren, Sarah, Anthony, Kenny, Joseph, Laura, and Amanda; and thirteen great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A Celebration Mass will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 116 Denbigh Blvd. Newport News, VA 23608. Interment will be held at a later date at Coral Ridge Cemetery, Cape Coral, FL
