Mary E. (Taylor) Bossio, exactly one week before her 92nd birthday, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2014. She was a native of Quitman, GA and was a resident of Yorktown for 8 years and Norfolk for 37 years.
Mary was retired Civil Service at Norfolk Naval Station. She was a Master Gardener, past president and board member of N. Camellia Acres Civil League, worldwide traveler, and an avid reader. She was also known for her endless curiosity and indomitable spirit.
As a Marine Corps Sergeant during WWII, she and her twin sister, Martha, traveled throughout the U.S. as recruiters.
Mary is preceded in rest by her husband of almost 55 years, Robert V. Bossio; her three sisters, Virginia Gardner of CA, Martha Wainwright of NY, Nan Taylor of VA; her father, Walter Brown Taylor of GA; and her mother, Rowena Nan (Long) Taylor of GA, who passed away 85 years ago when Mom was 7 years old. Our mother is the last of her incredible generation in our family.
She was a devoted mother to four daughters, Rowena N. Bossio of MD, Marcie A. Wheaton of CA (spouse Gale), Tamara B. Batte of Yorktown (spouse Bill), and Lisa M. Christie of CA (spouse Bob); and three grandchildren, Taylor J.F. Batte, Thomas V. Christie, and Gina M. Christie.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home in Hampton. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 3 PM, Friday, April 4 at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home Chapel, 601 N. Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
