

Rev. Maurice A. Carpenter, 91, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026. He was born on February 21, 1935, in Greer SC. He lived a life marked by faith, service, and devotion to his family and community.
Maurice proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant after a distinguished career. Following his military service, he continued his lifelong commitment to ministry, serving as a Bishop in the Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee). Over the years, he faithfully pastored churches in Hawaii, Virginia, West Virginia, and Tennessee. He also worked with the Church of God Ministry to the Military as a Servicemen’s Center Director in Germany and in Sicily. His leadership, compassion, and unwavering faith left a lasting impact on all who knew him. His motto in all his ministries was “Love God, love people!”
Maurice is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Millie Carpenter; his sisters Marlyn Miller, Ada Harrison, and Frances Southerland; his children, Alison (Ray) Boggs, Susan (Charles) Richardson, and Steve (Janet) Carpenter; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose legacy of love and faith will continue through the generations. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
The family will receive friends for a Visitation that will be held at New Life Ministry Center, 3450 S George Washington Mem Hwy, Gloucester, VA, on April 19, 2026, from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will immediately follow the visitation. Maurice's final place of rest will be at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
