Maximo Talacay Amit, 71, of Jaro, Leyte, passed away peacefully at home with his family on August 26, 2024. He was born on June 14, 1953, in the Philippines. Known by his friends as “Chris”, he served with dedication and honor in the Filipino Army for 10 years in Foreign Intelligence, Security, and as a Member of the Elite Multinational Unit of the United Nations Command in Yongsan, Seoul, Korea where he met and married his beloved wife of 43 years, Geraldine “Jodi” Amit. Arriving in the United States, Chris embarked on a distinguished 20-year career in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman and Certified Ophthalmic Technician. In the 2nd half of his Naval years, Chris and Jodi made the decision for her to also work at the Portsmouth Naval Medical Center which started their tradition of driving and taking lunches together. After his military service, Chris continued to serve his country through 19 years of civil service while also obtaining his LPN. Following him, Jodi continued to serve alongside her beloved at the VA hospital in Hampton, Virginia until October 2022 when they retired. He had a proud twinkle in his eye every time he mentioned they were retiring together. All the while working full-time to support the veterans in his community, Chris was not only an active member of his church but was also a licensed financial professional and entrepreneur. He was a strong believer that we should pursue a solid financial education and have committed discipline to save and prepare for the future. This led him to offer his skills to train and develop leaders and other licensed agents, later becoming a Senior Partner of his own office and helping families all over the United States for 12 years.
A man of deep love for his family, Chris was known for his determination, strong work ethic, faith, and unwavering commitment to accomplishing any goals he set his mind to. His legacy of service, devotion, and strength will live on through his family and those who knew him. Always giving a friendly smile, he was exceptionally dependable, never met a stranger, and made time for whoever needed him with a calm, wise demeanor. Chris has been a spiritual brother and spiritual dad to many. He loved to laugh, cook, play guitar, sing, spend time with his grandchildren, go fishing, spoil the family dogs, maintain a very healthy lawn, and beat his family and friends in whatever game that was being played. Memories like these are what his loved ones cherish.
Chris is survived by his wife, Geraldine “Jodi” Amit; his daughter, Jennifer Quan, and her husband, David Quan; his son, Michael Amit; his cherished grandchildren, Alexander Quan and his wife, Meredith Quan, Angel Quan, and Milana Quan; his brother, Gil Amit, and his wife Rebecca Amit; and many dear nieces and nephews. Chris is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. While our hearts mourn, we take comfort that he is with our Lord, without pain and full of joy.
