My condolences to June, Michael, and Scott. Over 55 years ago, Mike and I met at college. Sharing many of the same classes, we became close friends. His sense of humor and industriousness in his studies only strengthened our bond. We met his girlfriend June and immediately recognized that they were very much in love. My wife Terrie and I became very close to this wonderful couple, so much so, that they chose me to be the Best Man at their wedding. An honor that I have always cherished. Despite them moving away from New Jersey for career opportunities, we remained in constant contact; sharing stories of our growing families especially Michael and Scott’s athletic achievements. During these conversations, I was knew I was going to be subjected to his well intentioned barbs. While I always threw one back at him, he always got the best of me. Don Rickles was a rookie compared to Mike. Even as illness started its relentless attack on Mike, he still maintained his humor, his love of June, Michael and Scott…as well as his many friends and colleagues. You only have to read the comments and tributes made by others to know that he was a unique and special human being. I mourn with you. Rest in Peace old friend, you will be missed but not forgotten.

I worked with/for Mike for over 25 years.  It was a privilege to have him as a co-worker, boss and friend.  So many great memories!
He was so dedicated to June and their sons.  I am happy to learn that he was blessed with grandchildren.  I know they would have meant the world to him.  My deepest sympathy.

June, Michael & Scott - So many years spent with Mike as my mentor, boss and friend in Newark, OH.  I was taught an incredible work ethic, right is right and your family is a priority.  I am so sorry about his cancer and I'm sure he fought it like a champ.  Peace to Mike and I'm sure he is in Heaven, whipping out his wallet and showing everyone his "pride and joy". In my 35 years as a youth, high school and college coach, I quickly came to understand your team stood a whole lot better chance of succeeding if the family's, and specifically the parents, of your athletes were on your side.  Few things  can ruin a teams chances faster than negative noise in the backgrounds.  Conversely, you can go a long way when family support is steadfast.  In my career I had a lot of good parents.  But Mike Jefferies will always have a place in my heart as the best dad I had the pleasure of supporting my program.  To Mike, it was not about seeing the grass greener somewhere else or complaining about some real or perceived injustice.  To Mike it was about making the best of where you were and with what came at you.   Scott's athletic career with me had it's ups and downs, but Mike was a constant, level headed influence that helped Scott to hang in there and eventually succeed.  Not that Mike didn't appreciate a little fun now and then.  He did.  But his rudder always steered in that supportive, thoughtful, loving, caring, positive direction.   Of the people I have met in my life who have earned their spot in heaven, Mike is on the top of my list.  May he rest in Peace.

Mike and I worked together for many years in the trucking business in Ohio and  became very good friends. Our friendship continued after he & June moved to Virginia. While working with Mike he was always my go-to guy if I needed a 2nd opinion or advice  ( he was always there to help) . My wife & I consider he & June great friends. Sympathy to June , Michael,Scott ,Jen and the grandsons that he was so proud of.

Our hearts go out to June and Mike’s entire family during this difficult time.

My wife, Irena, worked with June for many years in the Hampton, Virginia schools, and over those years they became very close friends. Through their friendship, the four of us became friends as well and shared many wonderful times together.

We especially looked forward to our Wednesday pizza nights in Newport News and often enjoyed going to the street concerts in Hampton. Those simple times together created some very special memories that we will always cherish.

When we moved to Florida, our paths took us in different directions, with Mike and June remaining in Virginia, but we never lost touch. We continued to keep in contact and stay connected despite the distance.

Mike fought a hard battle with his illness, and our hearts go out to June and his family. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him—and especially for his dry sense of humor, which always brought a smile and made him uniquely Mike.

We feel very fortunate to have known Mike and to have shared so many good times together. He will always be remembered fondly.

So sorry to hear about Mike passing away. 
He was always happy and kind. I remember Mike and June coming to the beach. That was their favorite thing to enjoy!
