He was born November 22, 1938 in Macon, GA to Rev. Monroe Manson Sr and Maggie Mae Manson (Jones).
The family later relocated to Detroit, MI when he was a young child. He received Christ at an early age. Monroe was known as either JR to family or Manny to close friends.
After graduating from high school, Monroe enlisted into the U.S. Air Force in August 1958, where he served his country for 23 years. He was a Vietnam War Veteran and received many awards for serving honorable service. Shortly after retiring from the Air Force, he began his civil employment with the U.S. Army, from November 1981 through June 2016 at both Ft. Monroe and Ft. Eustis, where he retired after 35 years.
Monroe loved to play tennis, bowl, skate, sing, listen to music, and go to the beach whenever possible. Monroe lived up to the title of “being the man of the house” as he was great at handyman work and took pride in his home/yard.
In March 1979, he married Mei-Lan Manson and two children, Fang-Ting and Fang-Ling Manson were born from this union. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was truly one of a kind, that cannot be duplicated.
He was preceded in death by father, Rev. Monroe Manson Sr; mother, Maggie Mae Manson; two brothers, baby Manson and Willie Harold Manson; and one sister, Evelyn Winans.
He leaves to mourn his devoted and loving wife of 41 years, Mei-Lan Manson; two proud daughters, Fang-Ting Manson and Fang-Ling Manson (Christopher Gaddis, and a grandson Lawson Gaddis); his sister, Karen Ann Manson; brother/sister-in-laws' in Taiwan; nieces and nephews, Patrice Turner, Victoria McBride, Carmen Finn, De’Andre Manson, Michelle Manson, and LaTonya Manson-Cham; in addition to a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins both stateside and in Taiwan, neighbors, and friends that cherished him dearly.
May God bless and keep each person that has whispered a prayer, stopped by or said a word of encouragement to this most blessed and appreciative family.
