Obituary of Mrs. Nancy D Buckland-Hill
Nancy DeMello Buckland-Hill, 75 passed away on November 25, 2019 surrounded by her family at her daughter’s home in Poquoson, VA. Nancy was the youngest of 18 children born to the late Robert and Madeline Hall on May 10, 1944 in Pulaski, VA. She was married to John Edward Buckland from August 1962 until his death in September 1991. Nancy and John shared a great love that will never be forgotten by those that knew them. Several years after his death, Nancy was fortunate to meet and marry her surviving husband, Glenn G. Hill. Nancy is survived by her three daughters: Sally Parker (Glen), Susan Deeds (Danny), and Sandra Turbeville (Sammy). She leaves behind a very special nephew, William “Jargo” Crandall (Julie), who was the “son” that she and John never had. Nancy is also survived by her grandchildren Rachael, Brandon, Michael, Alexandra, Hannah, Jonathan, Emily, John, and Steven and a very special godson, Adam Marshall. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren Tucker, Graham, Aviana, Eliza and Jacob. Nancy is also survived by one sister, Ann Kalski, who was like a second mother and did not leave Nancy’s side the last few months. She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews including a special niece Buttercup Reese who was also by her side the last few weeks. Nancy also thought the world of her two “work daughters”, Vanessa Bowser and Leanna Walkup. Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. When her daughters were young, she was involved in PTA, school functions, and Girl Scouts. Later, Nancy worked many years in the medical field, retiring from TPMG Family Practice of Hampton Roads in 2018. Nancy was also very creative and crafty. Much to the delight of her granddaughters, Nancy “blinged” everything – clothes, tennis shoes, flip-flops, crafts, purses…..everything! She never believed that “less is more”. Nancy also had a love for decorating especially during Christmas. She would transform the family home into a Christmas wonderland. Nancy was also a great storyteller. Her grandchildren will forever cherish her many stories. Nancy was a kind-hearted, generous, fun, beautiful, and very creative person that will be greatly missed by her family and friends. If you knew her, you loved her. There are so many things we are going to miss about our mother. She entertained us with her imaginary illnesses over the years and we know she is smiling down on us saying “see, I told you I was sick”! Visitation will be held Friday, November 29th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 30th at 3:00 PM with the Reverend Thurgood Lane officiating also at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Following the services on Saturday, the family will receive friends at her daughter’s home at 3 Forrest Road in Poquoson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at 1801 Libbie Avenue #106, Richmond, VA 23226 in honor of her granddaughters Rachael, Alexandra, and Hannah.
