Obituary of Nelson Moore Magee
Mr. Magee was born in Wakefield, Va. on October 10, 1930, son of the late Erastus Daniel Magee and the late Elva Laine Magee. Graduating from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1952 with a B.S. degree in Architectural Engineering, Mr. Magee was stationed at Fort Bliss Army Base, El Paso, Texas before special transfer to Washington, D.C., where he served as 1st Lieutenant in command of construction of Launching Facilities for the Nike Ballistic Missile Program. Moving to Rome, Ga. In 1962, Mr. Magee worked for Ledbetter Construction Company. In 1974, he received certification of membership with the Georgia National Society of Professional Engineers. In 1976, Mr. Magee began work in Saudi Arabia for Vulcan Material Company of Birmingham, Al. When he left Saudi Arabia in 1989, he held the position of President and CEO for Saudi Arabian Vulcan Ltd. In 1990, Mr. Magee moved to Almeria, Spain where his development company built resorts on the Costa del Sol. In 2000, Mr. Magee returned to Rome, where he lived in retirement. Nelson is survived by his loving wife Edna Yolanda Magee; brother Donald Laine Magee; sons Gregg and Shane; daughter Yoli; daughters-in-law Eva and Diane; grandchildren Roxie, Nelson, Daniel and Bridgette; nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm Friday, March 24, 2017 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home with a service to begin at 2:30 pm in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park with honors rendered by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. The family asks that flowers be omitted and donations be made to one’s favorite charity. Friends are encouraged to visit to share memories and words of condolence with the family. Arrangements are under the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23666.
