Nettie Barker

Nettie M. Nott-Barker, 91, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Dominion Village of Poquoson. Nettie was a longtime resident of Newport News. She was born on August 18, 1932 in Kenbridge, Virginia to her late parents, Charles and Ruby Barker. Nettie retired from the Daily Press/Times Herald after many years of service, at which point she went to work for the Newport News Public Schools Cafeteria Services. She loved working with the elementary school age children, tending and caring for them at lunchtime. After retiring from the Newport News Public Schools Cafeteria Services, Nettie finally retired for good. Nettie lost her youngest daughter, Marcia Nott Morton, unexpectedly on August 24th, 2023. Nettie is survived by her only brother, Charles "Buddy" Barker (Dolly) of Florida; her children: Michael (Robin), Rubette (Stu), Cindy (Michael), Rick (Marcia's husband); her grandchildren: Clinton, Jenny, Jeffery, Preston, Christy, Timmy; and her great-Grandchildren: Tyler and Lucas. Nettie will be greatly missed for her generous, caring, kind spirit. She was always willing to help anyone who need it. The family would like to extend a very special "Thank You" to the staff at Dominion Village of Poquoson for all the wonderful care Nettie received for the last eight months from her children Mike, Rubette "Bet" and Cindy. Thank you all so very much! Nettie will be buried at a later date in her hometown of Kenbridge, Virginia.
