Born November 26, 1950, Pattie was raised in a loving, Lutheran household by her parents, Kenneth and Lovina Hinten, in Leetonia, Ohio. Demonstrating an early love of animals and music, Pattie was a member of the 4H club and played clarinet and saxophone at Leetonia High School, where she graduated in 1969.
Continuing with her passion, she attended The Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University. She studied Voice and was a former student of Wendell Orr. Pattie was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota Music Sorority and served as president of the Alpha Nu chapter.
Pattie relocated to Virginia where she lived for 40+ years. She excelled as a Project Management Assistant for four different General Contractors and was highly regarded for her loyalty, brilliance, and extreme attention to detail. After retiring from her primary career, she enjoyed serving as Secretary at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Newport News, Virginia, for several years.
She was also an active member of Yorkminster Presbyterian Church where she engaged in Christian Education and Woman’s Circle. One of her favorite activities was singing in the church choir where she would meet her husband, Steven Dowd. Pattie and Steve found love later in life and married in 2008. They enjoyed performing together and cherished opportunities to sing the duet “All I Ask Of You” from Phantom of the Opera. Pattie fully retired in July 2014 to spend more time with family, her cats, McGonagal and Stormy Sunday, and singing with Steve.
Pattie was known for being a feline aficionado and an impressive lyric Soprano. She was extremely devoted, affectionate, generous, compassionate, spiritual, and loved a good laugh. She loved musicals and Broadway and enjoyed attending local performances.
Pattie is survived by her husband, Steve; stepchildren and their spouses: Brian and Angela Dowd (Newport News, Virginia), Dr. James and Brittany Dowd (Los Alamos, New Mexico), and Amy and David Currier (Newport News, Virginia); and several beloved step-grandchildren: d’Artagnan Montgomery, Carol Montgomery, Malynn Tipton, Haley Polk, Kaytlynn Faloon, Michael Currier, Moira Dowd, and Isaac Dowd; as well as her sister Deborah and Wilbur Garrod (Leetonia, Ohio). Pattie was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Lovina Hinten, and stepdaughter, Dr. Melissa Dowd.
