Peter William Rapp, age 66, of Yorktown, VA, passed away after a long illness on February 25, 2023. Born on Long Island, NY, Peter was the first son of immigrant parents. His Austrian-born father, Otto Rapp, and his uncle, Otto’s brother, fled the Nazi invasion and escaped to Switzerland where Otto met and married Anne. They later moved to the United States to start new lives and have a family. Peter spent most of his youth attending public school in New Hyde Park and graduated from Herricks High School in 1974, where he was on the lacrosse team and the wrestling team. He later attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and graduated with a degree in chemical engineering. In 1978, he lost his only sibling, Robert, at the age of 19 in a tragic auto accident. After graduating from college, Peter went on to work in the nuclear power generation industry for Kansas City Power and Light Company, Long Island Lighting Company, Con Edison, and Virginia Electric and Power Company. Peter’s hobbies included photography, saltwater fishing, water and alpine skiing, and foremost, everything about cars. He enjoyed learning and loved being challenged. He also loved travel, indulging in adventure, fine dining, attending Formula One auto races, and going to rock and roll concerts with friends. He was a very caring and loving friend and always put others before himself, even to the end, despite his illness. He had a zest for life and a tremendous sense of humor. He dealt with more variables than most. He was a kindhearted person who will be missed by those who loved and knew him.
