
Phyllis Howell Baldwin, 87, passed away peacefully at her home In Newport News on October 13, 2025. Phyllis was born in Russell, KY, on August 24, 1938, to Lula and Fred Howell. She moved to the Peninsula at a young age graduating from Newport News High School in 1956.
Phyllis married Raymond Baldwin on November 21, 1959. She worked at Newport News Shipbuilding for four years before leaving the workforce to raise their children. Later she joined the hospital community at Riverside Regional Medical Center, retiring after many years of dedicated service.
She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Ray, and their children Amy Madray and her husband Warren, Mark and his wife Christy and her son Owen, and Brian and his wife Mindy. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Phyllis was a thoughtful and kind person who was always ready with a smile, available to listen intently without judgment, and willing to give advice. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was quick to laugh. She enjoyed traveling, reading, music and dancing. She was a devoted wife and mother selflessly putting her family before herself.
Although she will be deeply missed, her life will remain a source of joy to all those that remember her.
The family would like to thank her caregivers – Jessika, Royce and Savannah – for their compassion, care and support.
A graveside service will be held Monday, October 20, at 11:00 am at the Parklawn-Wood Cemetery at 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA.
