Obituary of Raymond Hugh Robinson
It is with great sadness we announce Raymond Hugh Robinson, 87, of Poquoson, VA died on Sunday, April 11, 2021. Born on February 24, 1934, in East Sidney, NY, he was the 9th of 11 children of the late Leon and Phoebe (Wormuth) Robinson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Phyllis Robinson and son in law Jacob Molchany. Raymond, affectionately and respectfully known by most as “The Col” graduated from Walton Central High School and joined the US Army in 1954. Raymond completed one tour in Korea and two in Vietnam. During his years of service he was stationed from Alaska to Florida and many places in between. He was highly decorated for his service and retired from the military as a Lieutenant Colonel. Raymond was a devoted and loving husband, father, fun grandpa, and friend. He was the perfect partner to his wife Phyllis, who he fondly called his one and only sweetheart. They would do anything for their family members and any of those they “adopted” along the way. Together, they purchased and ran Ross Auto Parts for more than 30 years. Outside of work he enjoyed restoring cars and racing. He sponsored many cars in various classes as a longtime supporter of Langley Speedway. Any given Saturday you could find him in turn 3, headset on, cheering for his car and driver. Raymond is survived by his children, David (Kathy) Robinson, Roxane Robinson (Tom Jernigan), Angela Robinson (Ben Braswell), and Mindy Molchany; 13 grandchildren Mike (Emily) Robinson, Jessica (Christopher) Hewitt, Marshall Robinson (Dani Schnepf), Hugh Jernigan, Neil Jernigan (Nicole Desiree), Mary Jernigan (Caleb Casey), Kate Northcutt, Ryan (Skye) Northcutt, Rachel Northcutt, Sam Northcutt, Drew (Kayla) Molchany, Kyle Molchany, and Brad Molchany; 8 great grandchildren and 1 on the way. A celebration of life will be held April 25, 2021, Sunday from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM at “The Shop”, 57 Wythe Creek Rd. Hampton VA. Raymond will be honored with a procession at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
