Richard Leroy Taylor

January 12, 1932November 29, 2018

Retired CMSgt Richard (Dick) Leroy Taylor went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on November 29, 2018. He was a dedicated member of Resurrection Lutheran Church. He was a proud US Air Force career Airman with many tours around the world and several combat tours in Vietnam. Dick was a stickler for detail and organization. He believed in being a good steward, taking care of people and everything he owned. Dick lived life to the fullest, sharing his faith, taking care of his family and serving our county. He was a husband, a father, and a grandfather and enjoyed travelling and fellowshipping with many dear friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Dixie Lee Taylor. He is survived by his son, Steve Taylor, and his wife, Laurie, of Athole, Idaho; his son, Doug Taylor, and his wife, Robin, of Yorktown; and his daughter, Traci Spruill, and her husband, Ed, of Seaford. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Ben, Jake and Nick Taylor; Christian Taylor and his wife, Shay, of San Diego, California; Lindsay (Taylor) Horton and her husband, Matt, of Yorktown; and Will Spruill and his wife, Val, of Newport News.

He is survived by three of his four sisters: Betty Bennett of Idaho, Kathy Marshall of Texas and Dona Bell of Illinois. Dick will be greatly missed by so many dear friends with whom he shared many years of joy, including his very best friend and fellow Airman, Retired CMSgt Jesse Kelly, of Pennsylvania.

A Celebration of Dick’s life will be held at 12:00 pm Monday, December 3, 2018 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 765 J. Clyde Morris Boulevard in Newport News, with Pastor Hank Hollar officiating. Interment will be private in Hampton-Veterans Memorial Gardens.

Friends are encouraged to visit to share words of comfort with the family.

Arrangements are under the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, Virginia 23666.

To the entire “Taylor” family, our deepest condolences and prayers for you as you go through the coming days and weeks. I will always remember him as a wonderful and happy person. Always a smile and hug every time we saw each other! The day I was fortunate enough to spend with him in the hospital - he introduced me to the nurses as “his other daughter, because I’ve been around since Traci and I were young”! That will be a special memory for me always! Our love and friendship forever...
