

He leaves his wife of 62 years, Mary B. Gaddis; three daughters, Katherine Pleasant and husband, Richard Pleasant, Diane Gordon, and Debbie Staffield; three sons, Robert Gaddis and wife, Pamela Gaddis, James Gaddis and wife, Charlene Gaddis, and David Gaddis and wife, Kendall Gaddis; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Richard Gaddis and wife, Evelyn Gaddis.
He was born in Waynesville, NC on November 20, 1935 and preceded in death by his mother and father, Lena and Robert J. Gaddis, Sr.; sisters, Barbara Hicks, Mary Micholas, and Jean Brehm; brothers, Donald Gaddis and Jerry Gaddis; and grandson, Robert Alexander Gordon.
Although a native of North Carolina, he grew up in Newport News, VA, and attended Newport News High School. In 1954 he moved to Hampton where he lived for 52 years and became a Journeyman pipefitter after working for Pepsi Cola as a route salesman and then a supervisor. As a pipefitter he and his wife traveled and settled in Covington in 2014. He enjoyed fishing as well as tinkering around in his garage and he liked collecting miniature race cars.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 7, 2016 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA. A service celebrating Robert’s life will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
