Robert Wayne Maston, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, peacefully left this world on October 28, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on September 14, 1952, in Hampton, VA, Wayne lived his entire life in the place he loved most. Known for his quiet demeanor, caring nature, and sharp wit, Wayne touched the lives of all who knew him in the most genuine and enduring ways.
After graduating from the esteemed Apprentice School in 1975, Wayne embarked on a fulfilling career at Newport News Shipbuilding. He spent nearly half a century contributing to shipbuilding's rich legacy, a testament to his dependable and dedicated work ethic. When Wayne finally retired in 2020, his colleagues fondly remembered him for both his unwavering commitment and his unique ability to lighten the mood with his subtle humor.
In 1979, Wayne married Juanita, the love of his life, with whom he built a warm and loving family. Together, they cherished the joys of raising two wonderful children, Frances Glenn and Stuart Frankie. Wayne's family was the cornerstone of his life, fueling his every action with an abundance of love and care. This love, vibrant and unconditional, was the guiding light for Frances and Stuart, leaving them a legacy of kindness and dependability.
Robert was a man of faith, guided by the teachings of Christianity, though he wore his beliefs in his heart rather than on his sleeve. His quiet principles and deep-seated values were evident in every facet of his life.
Wayne was a man deeply rooted in family. Preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Ralph Maston Sr., and his brothers, David and Bill, Wayne leaves behind a tapestry of cherished memories and loving relationships. Along with his devoted wife Juanita, Wayne is survived by his daughter, Frances Glenn (John), his son, Stuart, his grandchildren Hunter, Nelson, and Danielle, his brothers Gene and Daniel, and his sisters Janet Jenkins, Mary Jo Maston, and Terry Maston.
Every life leaves something beautiful behind and, for Wayne, it is the myriad of smiles he inspired, the laughs he shared, and the countless moments of reliable companionship. His memory will remain vibrant in the hearts of those privileged to have known him.
We invite family and friends to join us in celebrating Wayne’s life at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home on Monday, November 4th from 6pm to 8pm. It will be a time to honor his legacy, share stories, and find solace in community.
As we bid farewell to Wayne, we take comfort in the words from Revelation 21:4, "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." Rest in peace, Wayne, knowing you have left a world brighter for having graced it with your presence.
