Obituary of Ronald Raymond Shumate, Sr.
Ronald R. Shumate, Sr., 68, passed away Tuesday evening, August 14, 2018, surrounded by his family. One of five children, he was born in Logan, West Virginia, to the late Donald and Helen Shumate. He had been a resident of Hampton for over 40 years. Ron was retired and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid race fan and loved Langley Speedway. He enjoyed tinkering on campers with his friends at Dixie RV. He loved God, his country, and proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star with "V" Device for valor. Ronald is survived by his beloved wife, Dianna Shumate; his three children, Ronnie Shumate (Amy), Kristie Kimener (Michael), and Jeffery Shumate (Sara); his twin brother, Donald Shumate; sister, Darlia Kerr; and twin sisters, Traci Brylewski and Terri Chambers. In addition, Ron leaves many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren to cherish his memory. The family will receive friends 1:00 to 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home and Memorial Park. A celebration of Ronald’s life will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Jeff Cannon officiating. Interment with honors rendered by the U.S. Army Honor Guard will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
