Rosette Hinspeter, 96, a longtime resident of Hampton died on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. Rosette was born in Draguignan, France on February 5, 1929. Rosette was placed in an orphanage at age 3 through 11 as her parents were in dire poverty at that time. She then grew up with her mother in a small apartment in Nice where her mother supported them as a concierge and cleaning lady for the apartment tenants. Rosette grew up in volatile times with Europe in the troughs of a great depression and then World War II and the German occupation of France. She witnessed many things including the need for her to sneak bread and foods for her mother and her to eat. After the war she met a US navy sailor whose ship had made port in Villefranche. This meeting through ships dances and parties led to her marriage to William (Bill) Hinspeter in 1951 until his passing in 2010.
Rosette and Bill’s marriage produced three children Tricia, Denise and Mark, 3 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, Daughter Tricia and son-in-law Bob Toschik of Phoenix, Arizona and their 3 children; grandson Mark and wife Jennifer Toschik and their 2 children, Trey and Hannah of Scottsdale, AZ; Granddaughter Angela and husband Aaron Bolin and their 2 children, Ava and Alec of Chandler, AZ; and granddaughter Amy and husband Brian Mitchell and their 2 children Riley and Ashton, of Scottsdale, AZ; daughter Denise Pugh of Newport News, VA, and son Mark Hines and family with JoAnn Vernacchia and sons Stephen and Benjamin Adams of Midlothian, VA. Rosette is also survived by her sister in law Mary Perkowski of Las Vegas NV.
Rosette lived her life as a typical Army wife with Bill’s transition from Navy to Army. They frequently moved from post to post as his orders required. She was fortunate to spend much time at posts in France and Germany close to her home heritage as well as a variety of postings in the US until eventual retirement in Hampton, VA. She enjoyed her vacation time with family and even was on a bowling league through age of 92 with a high score of 245! She will be missed.
The family will receive friends at a Visitation for Rosette that will be held Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666. A private celebration of Rosette’s life will be held at a later date.
