Sarah Bellamy Helton

After a 42 year career with Maida Development Company in Hampton, she retired in 1998 as the supervisor of the shipping and receiving department. She was a member of Westhampton Baptist Church. Her hobbies and interests included recreational activities such as boating, fishing, camping and horse riding. As a seamstress, she enjoyed taking care of clothing alterations for friends and family and particularly took care of the alterations and badge placement for the Poquoson Police Department and the Newport News Shipyard Security Department’s uniforms.

Preceding her in rest is her son, Johnny “Sonny” Rice and granddaughter, Kelly Frizzelle. Surviving members of her family include her husband of 53 years, Yondall Ray Helton; children, Gene Rice, Brenda Kelly, Patty Bryan, and Debbie Vest; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and her sister, Shelby Causey.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, with a funeral service beginning at 3:00 pm. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
