Sharon Shackelford Hay

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Sharon Anne Shackelford Hay, our beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend, whose love, laughter and unwavering devotion to her family will be deeply missed.

Born and raised in Perrin Creek, Virginia, she later made her home in York County, where she built a life rooted in love, hard work, and family. After a dedicated career as a payroll specialist she retired in 2018, leaving behind years of faithful service and lasting friendships.

She found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved to read, had a deep appreciation for history, and believed there was always another mystery waiting to be explored through her favorite paranormal shows. She took great pride in her flowers and her yard, finding peace in caring for the home she loved. The Outer Banks of North Carolina held a special place in her heart, and she cherished every opportunity to visit the place that brought her so much happiness.

Known for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor; she had a remarkable gift for making people smile. Her warmth, kindness, and generous heart touched everyone who knew her, and her love for her family was evident in everything she did.

Above all else, she treasured her family. Nothing brought her greater happiness than simply being together with the people she loved. Her home was a place where memories were made, laughter was shared, and everyone was welcomed with love. Her greatest legacy is the family she cherished so deeply.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Roy Hay; her loving daughter, Elizabeth Hall, and beloved son-in-law Craig Hall; her cherished grandson, Hunter Quick, and his girlfriend Hailey Hoffman; her treasured granddaughter Austyn Martin, and her husband Caleb Martin; and her beloved granddog, Angus, who brought her endless joy.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Amory Shackelford; her father Ernest Shackelford Jr.; and her brother Terry Shackelford.

The family would also like to recognize very special friends, Diana Williams, Betty Hanger, and Robert and Marilyn Johnson, whose faithful phone calls, love and unwavering support meant more than words can express.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that her love lives on in the memories she created and the lives she touched. She will forever be remembered for her kindness, her laughter, her love of books and history, the beautiful yard she so proudly cared for, and the unwavering love she gave to her family. Though she is no longer with us in person, she will forever live on in the stories we tell, the laughter we share, and the love she so freely gave.

Her family will honor her life in the places she loved most, where her memory will forever remain connected to the shores of the Outer Banks of North Carolina and the peaceful waters of Seaford, Virginia.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the friends, neighbors, loved ones, and caregivers who surrounded her with compassion, kindness, and support throughout her journey.

A visitation will be held on Friday July 17, 2026 from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM at Parklawn Wood Funeral Home, located at 2551 N. Armistead Ave, Hampton VA 23666.
