Sharon (Steiger) Phillips was born in Detroit, Michigan to Pearl (Schultz) and James Steiger on April 15, 1939 and passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 6, 2018. She had an innate ability to touch people's lives with her kindness, wisdom and generosity.
She graduated from Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan with a degree in Secondary Education with a major in Latin and a minor in English. She was a Hampton City Schools educator for over 20 years and she had the honor of presenting her three daughters with their high school diplomas.
Sharon was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church since moving to Hampton in 1979. She participated in Faith and Social Ministries and was a Minister of Care for hospitalized parishioners.
She was survived by her husband of 50 years, Gerald; her three children, Michelle (John) DeDitius of Lorton, VA, Melissa (David) McDonald of Yorktown, VA, and Jannine (Jonathan) Moores of Niantic, CT; her sister, Kris (Ken) Lyles of Mooresville, NC; 10 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, James Steiger and her sister, Mary Ellen McCloy.
A rosary and visitation will be held on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at 6:00 pm at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2150 Cunningham Drive, Hampton, Virginia 23666. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 10:30 am.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia at cceva.org or the American Heart Association at heart.org.
