Shawn David Mattera

Shawn David Mattera, 29, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2015. He was a 2003 graduate of Kecoughtan High School and was a man of athletic ability all through his childhood. He loved the game of baseball and was a junior bowler at Century Lanes. Shawn played for Phoebus Little League until he aged out, and helped to coach other young children and helped to take a few teams to state. He had high hopes of becoming a Rap artist and wrote many lyrics, whether they were happy or sad. It was how he dealt with life. His struggles ended as a young man, always taking one step forward, but two steps back. He was loved and will be missed by family and his many friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Samantha Lynn Mattera, and her mother, Rhonda Baez from Jacksonville, FL; sisters, Lynn England (Wayne) of Danbury, NH and Linette Lavertue (Larry) of Wakefield, NH; brother, Larry Mattera of Danbury, NH; nieces and nephews, Samantha, Alyssa, Adam, Logan, Nathan, and great niece Kayla Mae; his Hampton family – Terry (Tina), Michael, Bob (Sylvia), Justin, Tim, Kassidy, Skylar, Logan Woods, April (Rez), Alyssa, Tyler Kabir, Woody Blaney, Stephanie, Cameron, Nancy, Brandon, Baylee, Caden (Nina), Thomas, Jessica, TJ (Corinna) Laxton, Bonnie (Joe), Derek Evans, Jupiter, FL and Joe (Deborah) Woods, Charleston, SC.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 5:00pm at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will follow at 6:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated and can be made to his daughter, Samantha, in care of her mother, Rhonda Baez, 3131 Searchwood Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32277.
