After a 30 year career serving his country, he retired as a CWO from the U. S. Army. He continued his career in Civil Service for an additional 15 years. He was a long time member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in rest by his wife, Nellie Myra Schaefer. Surviving members of his family include his children, Stephen H. Schaefer III and wife Karen, Edward J. Schaefer and wife Connie, James N. Schaefer and wife Terri, Clayton A. Schaefer and wife Judy, and Evelyn M. Schaefer and David Hamm; eleven grandchildren; and nineteen great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Wesley United Methodist Church. Entombment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
