Obituary of Terry Allen Ruhl
Terry Allen Ruhl, 75, of Hampton, Virginia, died Friday, December 14, 2018 at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News, Virginia. Terry was born September 14, 1943 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He was the only child of Clyde Shiley Ruhl and Anna Elizabeth Weaver Ruhl. He was a graduate of Elizabethtown High School, Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. He served as Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force from July 1961 to March 1969 with an extended tour in Iwo Jima, Japan during the Viet Nam war. He served the community as a police officer with the Hampton Police Division until his retirement in 1996 after 25 years of service. He was called back to work in the division’s Case Quality Control office where he worked up to his death. Terry was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Hampton, Virginia and the Monitor Lodge. He enjoyed bass fishing, the Dallas Cowboys, the New York Yankees, woodworking, watching old movies, and spending time with his family. He had a great sense of humor and adored his granddaughter. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, his son-in-law Robert Milligan and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jill Alley Ruhl, his son Craig Allen Ruhl, step-son Christopher O’Neal Tucker, granddaughter Micaela Marian Ruhl, daughter Phyllis Ruhl Milligan, son Timothy Ruhl and his children, granddaughters Kimberly Milligan Meade and Stephanie Milligan and their children. A memorial service with Police Honor Guard will be held Saturday, December 22, 2018 with visitation at 10:00 am, Masonic rites at 10:45 am, service at 11:00 am, followed by a reception at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 250 Fox Hill Road, Hampton, Virginia. Burial with military honors will be held at 1:00 pm at Parklawn Memorial Park. All are welcome to attend. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
