Born on January 19, 1955, in Goodyear, Arizona, Tommy later grew up in Hopewell, Virginia, where he graduated from Hopewell High School and proudly played basketball. He was a Hampton resident for the last 40 years. Over the years, he became known for his love of music, good food, and good company. If there was a meal being shared, music playing, or laughter happening somewhere, Tommy was usually right in the middle of it.
Tommy never met a stranger and had a way of making friends everywhere he went. He will be remembered for his stories, his sense of humor, and the countless memories he created with the people around him. He lived life in his own way and left a lasting impression on everyone lucky enough to know him.
He leaves behind his daughters, Caitlin, Casey, and Erin(Michael); his beloved grandchildren, Nathan, Olivia, Savannah, Emerson, Charlotte, Jack, and Caroline; his sister, Nancy; and many other loving family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Shirley Pettit, and his brothers, James and John Pettit.
An informal Celebration of Life will be held on May 30, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to stop by, share stories, remember the good times, and celebrate Tommy in the way he would have wanted — surrounded by laughter, memories, music, and the people he loved most.
