Toussaint Daniels, Jr., was born on May 15, 1949, in Halifax, North Carolina, to the late Toussaint Daniels, Sr., and Ophelia "Pete" Hewlin Daniels. He graduated from Eastman High School and proudly served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970 as a cook. During his service, he received commendations for his exceptional food preparation for his superiors.
At an early age, Toussaint joined Wayman AME Church and remained a faithful supporter throughout his life, even after moving away from the area.
Affectionately known as “Junior,” he worked in the Newport News Shipyard for many years until his health no longer allowed him to continue.
Toussaint was united in marriage to Patricia Gaskins Daniels, who preceded him in death. From this union were born two sons, Nigel Demond Daniels and Toussaint Javar Daniels, both of whom reside at the family home in Hampton, Virginia. He is also survived by one daughter, Terrica Johnson, and two beloved grandchildren, Isaiah and Nyia.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Mary Harrelson (Ivan) of Hampton, Virginia, and Carol Backus of Enfield, North Carolina; one brother, Lewis Nicholson (Cynthia) of Suffolk, Virginia; three sisters-in-law, Doretta Daniels, Barbara Daniels, and Davetta Daniels; and two brothers-in-law, Randy Gaskins (Ruby) and Leroy Gaskins. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Ray Daniels.
Toussaint was adored and dearly loved by all of his nieces and nephews, who fondly remember his cooking, especially his famous potato salad. Though he loved to tease them, they always knew it was an expression of his deep love and affection for them.
The family will receive friends at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, located at 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia, 23666, in the Chapel on January 17, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm for a visitation.
