William G. Hurt

He was born on April 30, 1935 in Salem, Virginia to Frank Lee Hurt and Evelyn Givens Hurt. He graduated from Andrew Lewis High School in Salem, and moved to Blacksburg, Virginia where he attended Virginia Tech. After obtaining his bachelor’s degree, he went on to attend the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.

Bill eventually settled in Hampton, Virginia where he resided for 61 years. He was a member of Hampton Baptist Church where he served as Minister of Education for over 40 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Jane Hearsey Hurt.

Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters: Linda Kelly and Amy Hurt; his two sons: Alan Hurt (Amy) and David Hurt (Brenda); seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service for Bill with reception to follow will be held Sunday, October 8, 2023 at 1:30 PM at Hampton Baptist Church, 40 Kings Way, Hampton, VA 23669.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Peninsula SPCA or your favorite animal rescue organization.
