

William Clyde Simmons, Jr. (SFC, US Army Ret.) a native of Putney, West Virginia and 37 year resident of Hampton, passed away Tuesday night June 3, 2008, at his home with his family at his side. He had served in the Korean (as an infantryman carrying a B.A.R) and Vietnam wars. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge with wreath and the Purple Heart Medal. He was a Cryptologist and retired from the Army August 1, 1971 after 24 years of honorable service to his country. He worked in Security after the Army.
Mr. Simmons will be greatly missed by his loving family and all who knew him..
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Ethel Simmons; his brothers, Arthur and Grant; and his sister, Helen.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; his three sons, William Clyde Simmons, III, David Simmons and Richard L. Simmons and wife, Elaine all of Hampton; two brothers, Louis Simmons of Baltimore, MD, Jerry Simmons of Taylor, Michigan; and a sister, Viola Chulla of South Carolina.
The family will receive friends on Thursday June 5th. from 6 to 7:30 P.M.
A graveside committal will be held at 2:00 PM Friday June 6th.at Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton.
Arrangements are under the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA 23666.
