

Zelda Olelia Groves Barrack, 93, was born in Washington, DC on February 24, 1918 to Anna May and Herman Carroll Groves. She passed away at The Newport nursing home in Newport News, VA on Saturday, November 26, 2011.
She is survived by her two children, Ann Marie Harris (John) and David Barrack (Jeanie), two granddaughters, Casey Turchetta (Anthony) and Jennifer Barrack. In addition, she has three great granddaughters, Mallory, Carly and Logan Rosa, and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Alfonso William Barrack, and three brothers, Layton, Malcolm and Elwood Groves.
Zelda was a wonderful home maker, seamstress, real estate agent, mother and grandmother. Some highlights in her life include her job as an assistant to General Lewis Blame Hershey during the war years and sharing a dance with famed dance instructor Arthur Murray.
She enjoyed golf, bowling, extensive traveling, cooking, sewing, and quilt making. Everyone who knew her was impressed by her patience, kindness and sense of giving. She will be greatly missed.
A celebration of Zelda's life will be held on Saturday, December 10, at 2 pm at Parklawn Wood Funeral Home in Hampton, VA. lnurnment will take place at a later date to rest with her husband in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC. Thanks to the staff at The Newport for all their attention and care during her stay there.
