Antoinette "Toni" Raven was born on March 11, 1940 in Selma, California. Her parents, Antonius and Alice Raven were immigrants from Holland. She grew up in the Laton/Selma countryside where she attended Terry Elementary School and Laton High School. She was raised with 2 sisters, 3 brothers, and many cousins. She was proud of her Dutch heritage and was affectionately known for her trademark saying, "if you ain't Dutch, you ain't much". She graduated from Laton High School in 1958. It was at Laton High where she met her husband, Morris "Morrie" Gamble. They were wed in 1959 and made their home in Laton where they raised 3 children. They were married for 57 years before Morrie's passing in 2017.
Faith and family were the foundation of Toni's life. Raising her children surrounded by their aunts, uncles, and cousins was of utmost importance. Instilling the love of Jesus in her children was the highest value. Toni was a member of the Laton Pentecostal Church for many years where she faithfully served and had many friends. In later years she attended First Baptist Hanford where she remained faithful and developed deep friendships.
Toni supported her children in everything they did. She attended many football, baseball, basketball, softball and volleyball games, rarely missing an event. She carpooled kids to cheerleading camp, church camp, judo, and gymnastics. She ran the concession stand for the community baseball/softball games for many years. She took her children, nieces, and nephews, on bicycle rides, to play at parks and have picnics. She was a hard worker and prided herself on a clean house and well kept yard. She diligently made sure her cookie jar was full of homemade cookies. Rarely did the family eat out, always having a home cooked meal. For many years it was a tradition to go to Toni's on New Years Day where she would prepare and serve "Oliebollen", a dutch pastry, for family and friends. She was a stay at home mother and wife until her oldest son began college. She then became a cook for Laton Elementary School for 17 years. When her first grandchild started kindergarten and called her "Nana" in the lunch line, she then became "Nana" to all the other kids as well. As her family grew to include many grandchildren, her life was once again filled with years of attending sporting events and cheering for her grandkids. We could give many details of how Toni was a devoted friend, wife, mother and grandmother, she will be greatly missed.
A few years after her husband's passing, Toni sold her house and moved into Valley Christian Senior Living Facility in Hanford for the last 5 years of her life. She was very active there and enjoyed the trips, games, crafts, Bible study and many other activities at Valley Christian. She had many dear friends there and was kindly cared for by the staff.
Toni was preceded in death by her parents, Antonius and Alice Raven; her husband, Morris Gamble; and her siblings, Mary Ann Sarratt, Margaret Nester, Patrick Raven and Donald Raven.
Toni leaves behind a legacy of dedication to her family and her Savior. She is survived by her brother William "Bill" Raven, wife Marlene of Hanford; sister in law Chris Raven of Laton; son Steve Gamble, wife Marilyn of Kingsburg; daughter Staci Stockton, husband Ron of Kingsburg; son Matthew Gamble, wife Amy of Hanford; 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
