Our beloved mother, grandmother, GG, and sister, Barbara Jean (Martella) Caviezel, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 14, 2026. She was born on October 30, 1942, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Hanford, California. She was 83 years old when she passed away peacefully in Visalia, California.
Barbara’s biggest priorities were faith, family, and friends. She was a faithful servant at both St. Bruno’s Church in Whittier, CA, and Our Lady of Fatima in San Clemente, CA. She was always willing to lend a hand or go the distance for a family member or friend in need. She had an especially soft spot for her beloved and cherished sisters, Loretta and Celine.
Barbara was known for writing notes in handpicked cards to commemorate important birthdays, anniversaries, and milestones, both big and small. If you ever received a sarcastic one-liner from her, you knew she truly liked you. She was also a trustworthy and reliable coworker, as shown through her years of dedicated service at Swiss Park Banquet Center in the City of Industry.
Most importantly, Barbara was deeply devoted to her family. Alongside her husband of 50 years, Joseph Caviezel, she raised their three daughters in Whittier, California. They later moved to San Clemente to be closer to their oldest grandchildren, and then to Hanford, California, to be near their youngest grandchildren and extended family.
Barbara is survived by her children, Tiffany (Mark) Carrillo, Lisa Fields, and Jill Caviezel (Joey Johnson); her grandchildren, Mikaela Carrillo, Marlee (Taylor) Ragan, Sophia Fields, and Aiden Fields; her great-grandchild, Cameron Ragan; and her sisters, Loretta Montgomery and Celine Henning.
Barbara embraced the words her father, Fred Martella, lived by: “The best things in life are free.” She is now truly free at last, in heaven with all those who have gone before her in faith.
A funeral Mass will be held in her honor on Friday, May 1, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Brigid’s Catholic Church, 1001 N. Douty St., Hanford, CA.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a gift in her name to St. Rose McCarthy Catholic School, Hanford, CA or a charity of your choice.
