

Betty was born to Earl E. & Verda R. (Shepherd) Adair in Memphis, Texas on January 19, 1934 and passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015 in Hanford, California.
Betty attended Visalia schools and was in the last graduating class from Visalia Union High School in 1950. She earned an Associate of Arts Degree from College of the Sequoias, a Bachelor of Arts Degree from California State University Fresno, and a Master of Arts Degree in Education from Fresno Pacific Christian College. She was a retired school teacher after having taught 22 years for the Armona Union Elementary School District, and substituted for many years after retirement. Prior to that, she worked for the County of Tulare for 18 years in various departments, including the Agricultural Commissioner, Welfare Department, Tulare County Hospital and Tulare County Sheriff’s Department. She also worked for the Santa Clara County Health Department in San Jose, California, and the Gudeman Electrical Company in Sunnyvale, California, while attending San Jose State College.
Betty was married to Joseph Sunseri in 1955 and divorced in 1961. They had one daughter, Roxanne Coffee. She leaves behind two granddaughters, Tammy Lee Ann French and Stacey Lynn Slattery; one grandson, Paul Nicholas Schwartzkopf, and great-grandchildren Kai (Ky) and Kihei (Kehay) French and Natalya Slattery.
She is survived by one sister, Earlene Westmoreland of Dinuba and three nephews, Steven, Donnie and Michael Adair; a brother, Don Owen Adair, passed away July 10, 1982.
Betty was a member and past secretary of the Kings County Retired Teachers Association, a life-time member of the California Teachers Association, a past member of the American Association of University Women.
Betty’s favorite people were her family members. Her attitude toward death was that it was “a sweet release into the presence of the Lord”.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Visalia Cemetery; 1300 W. Goshen Avenue, Visalia, CA 93291.
