Dionicio Hernandez

Dionicio was born to Luz Vargas Esparza and Antonio Hernandez, April 29,1945 in Piritzio, Michoacan. Dionicio grew up in Mexico before coming to California at the age of 16 living in Huron, Ca.

Dionicio was known to many as Nicho. On October 12,1967 Dionicio married the love of his life Manuela Hernandez. Together they built their life and family in Kettleman City, Ca.

Nicho worked in the rural area ranches as a farm laborer for about 60 years before retiring to care for his loving wife until her passing in February 2022.

Nicho had a passion for music. He played the guitar; acoustic, bass and electric, the accordion and the keyboard. Nicho also sang and wrote songs. One of Nicho’s proud accomplishments was becoming a US citizen, he studied endlessly and practiced his English skills every day.

Nicho liked going on daily walks in the hills and riding his bike. He liked fishing, watching sports, westerns and Bruce Lee movies. Nicho liked gardening in the yard tending to his roses, variety of fruit trees, nopales and grape vines. Nicho adored his family and all his grandchildren who called him Tata.

During Nicho’s retirement he was involved in playing music for Sunday masses, was devoted to praying the rosary and volunteered during Food Distributions in Kettleman City.

Nicho lived a long and good life. He liked to tell stories and to laugh, he learned and was fascinated by how to navigate the internet. Nicho was friendly and never met a stranger.

We will all miss him dearly, but his hard-working ethics, stubbornness and family values will stay with us forever.

Dionicio is survived by his children and their partners: Maria Teresa Hernandez, Dionicio Jr. and Shawni Gabriel, Ariana & Isaac Jimenez and Damian Hernandez.

9 grandchildren: Analisa, Angel, Ashley, Gabriel, Cruz, Delilah, Liliah, Isaiah & Ariella.

4 great grandchildren: Christopher, Elizabeth, Esmeray & Elias.

2 sisters and many nieces & nephews.

Dionicio was preceded in death by his wife Manuela Hernandez, granddaughter Alaina Isabella Jimenez, Parents and 5 siblings.
