Born on March 19, 1930 in Los Angeles, California to Carlos and Luisa Torres; he was one of 12 children. As a child he returned with his family to Nuevo Leon, Mexico. In the early 1950’s he returned to the United States. Settling in Hanford, “Mundo” married Petra Giron in 1953, and she predeceased him in 1978. They had four children Edmund Torres, Jr. (1954-2014), Lupe Torres, Louise (Carl) Nelson, and Rose Mary Torres. He had one grand-daughter Jaya Torres and one great-grandson Javyion Torres. He is also survived by his brother Eliseo Torres (Mexico) and a sister Ermelinda Torres (Texas).
Mundo married Ramona Sauceda in 1990 in El Paso, Texas. His second family embraced him and considered him as a father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Children are Juan (Ana) Medina, Maria Medina, Martha (Angel) Velasco, George (Trisha) Medina, Maggie (Jesus) Padilla, Serjio (Sandy) Medina, Frank Medina, Angelita (Jarrod) Castaneda, Alice (Jennifer) Castaneda, and Lupe. Mundo is survived by 42 grandchildren, 65 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Mundo worked as a farm laborer for more than 50 years before retiring. He was always physically active and a resourceful person. While only having a grade school education he was good with figures (he was the treasurer for the Sociedad Progresita Lodge #22 for many years) and mechanically inclined to fix anything from appliances to cars. He enjoyed maintaining his garden with fruits, vegetables and flowers. One of his favorite pass times was watching Westerns on TV especially “Zorro.” One of his favorite gifts to receive was the lottery scratchers.
He was a good Father, always supportive and encouraging his children to fulfill their dreams. He was a wonderful husband and grandfather and will be truly missed by all. We will remember his jokes, his wonderful dancing skills and zest for life.
God saw he was tired and gave us a beautiful angel to watch over us. He lived a good life. He loved and was loved.
