The youngest of a family of eight, Ellen Ruth Fleming was born December 1, 1921 on WK Hill, seven miles north of Coalinga (the town of Oilfields, Ca. at the time). She returned to her maker December 23, 2018.
She attended Coalinga schools from First Grade through Coalinga College (now West Hills). Ruth worked with the U,S, Army as a civil servant and with Standard Oil Company (Now Chevron) as an office clerk during World War II. Then 37-1/2 years for California Natural Resources, Division of Oil and Gas, most of that time as a stenographer. Through persistent efforts by her boss the late Deputy F.L. "Les" Hill and additional education, her classification the last seven years was "Energy and Mineral Resource Engineer" (Upward Mobility Program).
Ruth was an active member of Pleasant Valley Christian Center (Assembly of God) serving many years as pianist, Sunday school teacher, youth worker and part of Women's Ministries. Never married, she was affectionately called "Grandma Ellen" by my many.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews and their children. Many "adopted" children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Frank May and Phebe Mary (King Well) Fleming; her siblings Mildred Haggard, Benjamin "Ben" Fleming, May Johnson, Myrle Young, Frank R. Fleming, Judson Fleming, Winifred Knick.
