Elsie Bernadette Oliveira passed from this world on November 9, 2025, at her home in Hanford, California at 93 years of age . Elsie was born to Frank P. Rosa and Albertina Simas Rosa, on December 7, 1931. She was a lifelong resident of Kings County.
Elsie’s life was full of service and accomplishments. She was the Valedictorian of her class at Hanford High School. Along with her husband Louie, Elsie owned and operated the family dairy on 7 1/2 Avenue in Hanford, California. She was ahead of her time, holding several jobs outside of the ranch. Elsie worked in the title business, at the fire station, and ended her career as the Deputy County Clerk of Kings County, where she had the joy of issuing the marriage licenses for her children. In retirement, she and Louie enjoyed traveling the world, seeing China, the Holy Land, Portugal, Spain, the Azores, Madeira Islands, and most of Europe. She kept in touch with several cousins on the island of Pico, Azores. Elsie did not hesitate to volunteer her time to many worthy causes. She was a member of the Kings County Dairywomen, President and member of the Kit Carson Parent’s Club, Master Gardeners, Hanford Garden Club, Soroptimist International, Kings County Historical Society, Red Hat Society, and several Portuguese Societies. Elsie was a faithful member of St. Brigid’s Catholic Church, but her faith extended beyond the community. She generously established three Catholic churches in India and one in Africa. She made big-hearted contributions to other charities as needed. Elsie was quick to give advice regarding anything garden related. She was happiest when making the world more beautiful, be it in her garden or be it by taking something old and rejuvenating it to be used again. She saw potential in everything and everyone.
Elsie is survived by her children, Louis (Garen) Oliveira, Gloria (Ron) Denton, Franklin B. (Heather) Oliveira, Patrick (Tracy) Oliveira. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Alexis (Scott) Jones, Kate (Shaun) Fitzgerald, Matthew Denton, Michael Denton, Franklin T. Oliveira, Kyle Oliveira, James Oliveira, Grant Oliveira, and Carly (Frank) Truncali. Elsie has five great grandchildren, Isabel, Luke, and Christopher Fitzgerald and Jaxxon and Indiana Truncali. She is also survived by her eldest brother Manuel (Eva) Rosa and numerous beloved godchildren.
