Florence Michiko Nishi passed away peacefully in her home on January 9, 2019 at the age of 94. She was born in San Diego, CA to Zenjiro and Hideko Masai on August 25, 1924. Her fluency in Japanese and Japanese traditions were learned at an early age while living in Japan from ages 4 through 12.
She was a long time employee of Hanford Public Library and Britz Fertilizer Company. She was always an active member of the Hanford Buddhist Church and Women’s Buddhist Association (Fujinkai) since the 1940s.
One of her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. She would always look forward to her next visit to her Morro Bay home that her sons, Les and Geoff would facilitate as often as possible.
She is survived by a brother, Chico (Chikara) Masai and her children, Rod (Pat), Marilyn Stone (Steven), Leslie and Geoffrey, her grandchildren, Kevin (Vicki), Scott (Kate) and Todd (Amy), and great grandchildren James and Madison and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, George Nishi (1982), parents Zenjiro and Hideko and brothers, Pete (Shin) and Tommy.
A Memorial Service will be held at Hanford Buddhist Church; 238 N. Green Street, Hanford, CA on Sunday, January 27th at 1:00 p.m. Any cards of condolences can be sent to People’s Funeral Chapel; 501 N. Douty Street, Hanford, CA in care of Les Nishi.
