

Fumiko of Hanford passed away October 26, 2015 at the age of 80 years.
Fumiko was born in San Luis Obispo County on July 26, 1935 to Matao and Saye Sakata. She attended Reedley High School, graduating in 1953. Fumiko attended Reedley Junior College and graduated with Associate of Arts degree.
Fumiko, her parents, and her siblings were interned at Poston, Arizona, during World War II. The family returned to Reedley after the war.
Fumiko married Walter Mizote of Hanford on January 27, 1968. Walter and Fumiko had three children, twin daughters Miki and Miye, and son Ty.
Fumiko was a classically-trained Odori dancer and was an accomplished athlete playing guard for the Reedley Manjietts basketball team in her youth. Fumiko worked on the farm in her youth and as a dental assistant after graduating from college. She later became the longtime chief bookkeeper and office and parts manager of Sunset Garage, working alongside her husband, Walt. Fumi was also an active member of The Hanford Buddhist Church.
Fumiko was preceded in death by her husband, Walt, her daughters, Miki and Miye, parents, Matao and Saye, and her siblings Ayako, Tom, Tatsuo, and Bobby.
Fumiko is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ty and Jenny Mizote of Laton, her sister Tomiko Fukuda of Silver Spring, Maryland, and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the Hanford Buddhist Church; 230 N. Green Street, Hanford, CA with Burial following at Hanford Cemetery; 10500 S. 10th Avenue, Hanford, CA 93230.
