August 7, 1938 – January 5, 2021
On January 5th, 2021, at the age of 82, Irene N. Atilano, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend was called home by our loving Lord. Irene was born to Joe and Eulalia Nunez in Indio, California on August 7th, 1938.
She married the love of her life, Angel Atilano, on December 29, 1957. Together, they built their home and lives together in 1962 in Orosi, California where together they raised their four children. Irene was always good with numbers and found her way into the accounting field. She worked as a bookkeeper for over 38 years. She started her career in 1974, working as a bookkeeper for Pena’s Disposal Service and Abe-El Produce. She moved on to start her own successful bookkeeping and income tax business which she operated until she fully retired at the age of 74. Irene was very active in her community and church. She was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Catherine’s Church, Catechism Teacher for St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Board Member for the Cutler-Orosi Chamber of Commerce, Alta Health Care District and the Water District for Cutler-Orosi. She was recognized for her service in the community as Woman of the Year by the Cutler-Orosi Chamber of Commerce. She spent her retirement years taking trips with her husband, spending time with her kids and grandkids, visiting family and friends and taking care of her husband after he became ill.
Irene loved her family. She lived for the love of her husband, children, and grandchildren. All of them, were what made her heart happy. She was a woman who always lent a caring ear and made time for her family and friends.
Irene was preceded in death by her Father Joe, Mother Eulalia, Brother Louie, Sister’s Mary Jessie, Pauline and Alice. She is survived by her sons, Robert and John (wife Alma), daughters Kathryn (husband Tim) and Josie (husband Mark), Brother’s Joe and Larry, Sister’s Vickie, Margie and Paula, 8 Grandchildren and 6 Great-Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 12, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at People’s Funeral Chapel – 501 North Douty St, Hanford. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Tulare, California. Burial to follow at Smith Mountain Cemetery, Dinuba.
The family would like to thank each and every one of Irene’s family members, friends and caretakers who were there to support her through prayer, love and assistance during the last years of her life.
