Jack Vierra, 94, of Hanford, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 9, 2023, after a brief illness. Jack was born on July 31, 1929 to Arthur (Art) and Adelaide Vierra in Guadalupe, California.
After attending local Hanford elementary and High Schools, he obtained his parents' permission and enlisted the United States Navy in 1946. He served in the North Atlantic and eventually was stationed in North Africa as a refrigeration specialist. Jack returned to Hanford permanently after his discharge from the Navy and began working on the family farm. In 1948 he met Patricia O'Brien in Hanford. Jack and Pat married in 1951 and had three sons, Gary, Mark and Kevin. After helping on the farm, he worked for a local plumber and eventually worked for a local service station maintenance company where he remained until the early 1970's. At that time, he took over his stepfather and mother's electrical business, Waggoner Electric. Jack worked as an electrical contractor operating Waggoner Electric until he finally retired (more or less) at age 75. Both before and after retirement Jack and Pat enjoyed traditional Dixieland jazz music and were somewhat 'groupies' for certain bands. They were bitten by the travel bug and made many extensive trips to Europe and to their beloved Ireland.
Their house was often the center of family gatherings and parties. The couple was known for their kindness and generosity. Jack continued to exhibit a ready smile and generous nature until his death.
Jack was predeceased by his wife Pat (2010) and their first son Gary (1956). He is survived by his two sons, Mark and Kevin (Ellie) and 2 granddaughters Erin and Dana.
A visitation service will be held at Peoples Funeral on Saturday December 2 at 10:00 am with a brief graveside service to follow. A Celebration of Life will be held at the family home in February 2024. For details regarding the Celebration of Life, please contact Kevin Vierra ([email protected]).
