Johnnie "Doug" Douglas Spurlock

Doug was born in Selma, California on July 9, 1946 to loving parents, John and Juanita Spurlock. He was raised and educated in Selma, attending Garfield Elementary, Selma High School and graduated from Santa Maria High School in 1964. While in school he played baseball as a freshman and junior and then moved to the golf team as a junior and senior. Doug attended Reedley College and San Jose City College, pursuing his degree in Business Administration. In 1968 Doug went to work for American National Insurance Company as an Insurance agent where he was promoted to the position of District Manager in the Portland Oregon, Fresno and Selma CA offices. This is where he earned and was fondly known by nickname “the insurance man”. He retired from there in 2009 after 41 years of service. On June 5, 1971 Doug married the love of his life, Pamela Elaine McNamara and they began their life in Selma, California. In 1973 Doug and Pam moved to Portland, Oregon and in 1976 moved to Hanford, California to make their home and raise their two sons, Robert and Ron. He enjoyed sports, sports and more sports, gardening, arguing politics, listening to his police scanner and site seeing. He and Pam have traveled to Spain, Norway, England, Australia, Colorado and Montreal, Canada as well as many other places. Doug served on the Kings County Grand Jury, was a member of Mended Hearts, Better Breathers, Hanford Garden Club and served as Visalia Oaks Baseball Booster Club President. He and Pam were also foster parents. Family time was very special to Doug and he enjoyed camping, riding bikes, BBQ’ing and visiting with his family. He especially enjoyed the times spent with his granddaughter, Natalee.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, John and Juanita and by his sister-in-law, Medrith Spurlock.

Doug leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of nearly forty one years, Pam of Hanford; his two loving sons, Robert Spurlock of Fremont, CA and Ron Spurlock of Hanford, CA; one very special granddaughter, Natalee Spurlock of Fremont, CA; two brothers, Ronald Spurlock of West Sacramento, CA and David Spurlock and wife, Patty of Kingsburg, CA; one sister, Sue Sanders and husband, J.E. of Durant, OK; seven nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews and nine great, great nieces and nephews as well as other extended family members and friends. He is also survived by a loving and close group of first cousins.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2012 from 4 – 7 p.m. at People’s Funeral Chapel, 501 N. Douty Street in Hanford, CA. Celebration of Life services will be held on Monday, June 4, 2012 at 11 a.m. also at People’s Funeral Chapel of Hanford, CA. Doug will be laid to rest at the Selma Cemetery in Selma, CA.
