Joseph Oliver White passed away March 6, 2018 just a few months short of his 95th birthday. Joseph or “Joe” as he was known was born in Chester, Pennsylvania on May 31, 1923 to Robert and E. Marion White. His family moved to San Diego, California when Joe was a teenager.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and landed on Utah Beach and was later stationed in Verdun, France. He met the love of his life (Genevieve) while he was in Verdun and they married. When the war was over he and his new bride returned to San Diego, California where they made their home until 1961.
Joseph was a firefighter and the base that he worked at in San Diego was closing down about the same time NAS Lemoore was opening. He moved the family to Hanford and he worked at NAS Lemoore Crash Fire Crew until he retired in 1978.
He enjoyed traveling with his numerous travel trailers and motorhomes he owned over the years. He enjoyed working in his yard and antique hunting. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Savior in Hanford for over 50 years and was the oldest living member.
Joe preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Genevieve White. They had four children; Mary Jo Alvernaz of Hanford, Robert White of Campbell, Chantal Sherbrook of Hanford and Solange Pollack of Los Angeles. They have 8 grand-children and 17 great-grandchildren. Joseph will be missed by all who knew him.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 24th at 10:00 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Saviour; 519 N. Douty St., Hanford, CA with Burial immediately following at Hanford Cemetery; 10500 S. 10th Ave., Hanford, CA 93230.
