Loyd is survived by his wife of 70 years, Pearl Woodson of Hanford, CA; his sisters Fay and Wilma Dean of Texas; his children, Gerald and Susan Woodson of Neshkoro, WI; Ron Woodson and Kathie Carpenter of Lemoore, CA; Stan Woodson of Blue Jay, CA; Nancy Woodson of Crestline, CA; Judith and Mario Estrada of Fountain, CO; and Winter and Joe Johnson of Woodland Park, CO. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and hundreds of friends.
Loyd was preceded in death by his parents; Wallace and Bennie, and his brothers BW, Leonard and Osro all of Texas.
Loyd served in the U. S. Navy and was a proud WW II veteran serving in the South Pacific theatre aboard the USS Ganymede. While in the Navy he met and married his sweetheart of 70 years Pearl Peterson of Sherburn, Minnesota on April 10, 1943 in Whittier, California.
Loyd and Pearl lived in Corpus Christi, Texas for 10 years before moving back to California. They lived in Anaheim for 25 years and Blue Jay for 18 years before moving to Hanford.
Loyd and Pearl’s passion for travel over the years took them back and forth from California and Texas, to the Grand Canyon, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Washington State, Hawaii and many other places.
Loyd loved to collect albums filled with photos of his family, work on home projects, and because he was so good at math was called on by numerous churches to be their treasurer. After retirement, Loyd and Pearl were very active in the senior center and church wherever they lived. They were very good at making and keeping friends. Dominos was their favorite pastime. Ensuring folks knew he was from Texas was his greatest joy.
A private family memorial service will be held at First Southern Baptist Church; 1207 N. 11th Avenue, Hanford, CA 93230.
The Woodson family would like to pay a special thank you to Ron Woodson of Lemoore and Kathie Carpenter of Hanford who have been there for Loyd and Pearl through so many events in our parent’s lives over the past eight years. Thank you so much for the love you have shown.
Donations in Loyd’s memory can be made to the church or the charity of your choice.
