Her school days started back in 1937 where she attended Westside Elementary School District for only three years. As a teenager, she worked many years as a waitress at the Cactus Bowl Restaurant in Pearsall, Texas, where she was able to save one hundred and fifty dollars as a down payment for a house to be built. Ninfa met her husband Pablo P. Varela at a church function; six months later they were married on December 10, 1959. In 1960 they settled in Hanford, California to help their pastors at First Baptist Church where she was an active member. Raising two children of their own they also became foster parents to many children. Her favorite school fundraiser was the “Enchilada Dinner” with the P.T.A. (Parent Teacher Association) of Armona Elementary School District. In 1966, they built their home through Self-Help Enterprises along with many other surrounding families. Her children’s fondest after school memory was homemade tortillas and butter to share with their neighborhood friends.
Ninfa loved and adored her only two grandchildren Devin and Elena Alcoser; you would always hear her talking about all their significant accomplishments in life and where they were headed. She was also fond of her sister-law-sister Virginia Varela. If you found one, you would find the other, passing their time riding the KART bus to Walmart and McDonald's every day. She leaves behind her loving niece Dora Chavez, whom she cherished and loved. Leading up to this time, Dora dedicated her time on making sure her tia Ninfa was well taken care of.
She is survived by daughter Almira Alcoser and son-in-law Rito R. Alcoser of Armona, CA, son Samuel Varela of Hanford, CA, grandson Devin R. Alcoser and wife Elena M. Alcoser of Armona, CA, sister Cecilia Valle of Pearsall, TX last survivor of 92 years. The family would like to thank Hacienda Rehabilitation and Health Care Center for all the loving care and dedication to their mother.
