Shirley Schlotman Schoen, 90, of Hanford, CA passed away Friday, October 5th in her home at Diamond Terraces Assisted Living Center in Hanford. Born in Carrington, ND to John and Gertrude Schlotman, Shirley lived most of her adult life in Santa Barbara, and after retirement in Hanford. She was married to the late Marvin Schoen in 1949. Shirley enjoyed her years working for J.C. Penny’s and Mid-State Bank. Active in her faith community wherever she lived, she volunteered in church and school youth activities, teaching and Bible study groups.
She is survived by son Barry (Carol) Schoen; daughter Ginger Hernandez; grandchildren Ryan (Tulip) Schoen, Heidi (Mike) Daniels, Jennifer Hernandez, Jonathan Hernandez (Ashley Keiser, Fiancé), Hannah Schoen, Kirsten Schoen, Justin Hernandez; and great-grandchildren Mya, Adam, Tristan and Fiona. Shirley will be remembered for her generous heart and loving care to law enforcement and servicemen whether local or deployed, to her church family, and to her daughter and family for the 21 years she lived in Hanford.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 2nd at Goleta Cemetery; 44 S. San Antonio Rd, Santa Barbara, CA 93110. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 3rd at First Christian Reformed Church; 2175 Leoni Dr, Hanford, CA 93230.
Memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association Alzheimer’s Association https://act.alz.org, Hanford Christian School, or the charity of your choice. The family also asks you to share at your convenience any special memories, anecdotes, or funny stories of Shirley that you might have.
